Violation of basic human rights in Serbia
October 31 – November 13, 2025

On November 5, two Serbias met in the center of Belgrade. On the one hand, citizens who demand justice and the determination of responsibility for the fall of the canopy, citizens who came to support the mother of the dead young man, who decided to take the extreme step of a hunger strike because in a country where institutions do not function, this is the only remaining option for her. On the other side, representatives of the ruling party and supporters of the regime gathered, some of them with criminal records, who celebrated and rejoiced with nationalist songs and pyrotechnics.

In such a deeply divided Serbia, for which the current government bears the greatest responsibility, students, professors and all free-thinking citizens of this country are regularly targeted. The number of attacks on the media by people staying in the fenced camp “Ćaciland” is increasing, students are exposed to degrading and traumatizing experiences of arrest and detention, teachers’ salaries are taken away, as well as other means necessary for the work and existence of citizens who supported the protests.
